Virus analysts of the Russian anti-virus company Doctor Web have discovered the world's largest botnet comprised of Android handhelds. To date, over 200,000 smart phones have been infected with Android.SmsSend programs and added to the network. In this case, sites belonging to criminals as well as those that have been compromised are the main sources of infection. The largest number of infected devices are owned by Russian users; Ukraine ranks second, followed by Kazakhstan and the Republic of Belarus. Preliminary estimates suggest that the damage caused by malware as a result of this incident could amount to hundreds of thousands of dollars.
