    crypt() overflow in old PHP

    Hi guys,

    maybe I'm doing something wrong, but can someone of you help me understand what's goin on?

    I have installed PHP 5.3.6.
    I have a code in php, looks like this:
    PHP Code:
    <?php
    $salt 
    "AAA...AAA"// Ax10k

    echo crypt('whatever',$salt);
    ?>
    Why overflow is not occur?

    Let me know if you need anything else to answer this questions.
    I will be very glad to read some useful hint.

    This works mate

    <?php
    $salt = "AAA...AAA"; // Ax10k

    echo crypt('whatever',$salt);
    ?>

    Run it from a command line and check .

    php crash.php .
